Occupancy Limits according to our FSH housing contract (section 6.S)- "The Resident understands that they are allowed occupancy in the University Family Student Housing, provided all the terms of this Contract are met, for a maximum of two (2) years if they are seeking a Masters degree, four (4) years if they are seeking a B.A. and six (6) years if they are seeking a Ph.D, or when the complex building is no longer in operation. The maximum length of stay is six (6) years per family unit regardless of number of students or number of degrees sought. Faculty are allowed occupancy for a maximum of two (2) years."
Thus, there are occupancy limits on how long you are allowed to stay in UCSB Family Student Housing. This is 4 years for a terminal Bachelor's degree, 2 for a terminal Master's degree, and 6 for a terminal Doctorate; OR 6 years in total, whichever comes first.
For move out after graduation, section 5.C.4 of the housing contract states: "The Resident graduating at the end of Fall Quarter of any year must file a Notice of Termination to vacate by December 31 of that same year; or for graduation Winter Quarter of any year, file a Notice of Termination to vacate by March 31 of that same year; or for graduation Spring Quarter of any year, file a Notice of Termination to vacate by June 30 of that same year; or for graduation at the end of Summer Quarter of any year, file a Notice of Termination to vacate by August 31 of that same year."
If you need to live at FSH longer but have reached your occupancy limit, your situation might warrant an extension. You can petition for an extension here; you will need to submit a letter from your department or advisor stating how much additional time is needed to finish your degree and what the expected degree completion date is.
According to Campus Housing, "By submitting a petition, you are requesting an exception to the university housing contract or approval for a special consideration related to your housing. It is not a guarantee that your request will be approved. The petitions committee meets once per month to review newly submitted petitions, and each case is reviewed on an individual basis. It may take up to six weeks for you to be informed of the results of your petition."
